Agility Foundation Classes

With years of experience of training young dogs for agility we are please to be able to start offering Foundation training back at UpAndOver with The Lakers.

Training will be offered on a 3 to 4 week basis on Thursdays except for the first Thursday of the month.

This gives new dogs and handlers the opportunity to learn about agility without having to commit to a regular weekly session.

Agility is great fun and the way we help the dogs to learn will mean that we know that the majority will be coming back month after month and we will ensure these dogs are developed to be their best.

Once dogs are ready to move on to the normal classes these dogs will be given priority for spaces on our regular weekly Tuesdays or may prefer to move onto the later Thursday focus groups.

Dogs under 12 months will not be doing any full height equipment. We will work on a wide selection of exercises building towards creating a dog that enjoys learning and can learn in a busy environment. Once the time comes to do agility obstacles the handlers will have a strong understanding of their dog enabling them to be taught easily and quickly.

Relationship is a key to getting the most out of agility and is a big focus in our classes.

If you are interested in joining our next Foundation Group please email Karen.thelakers@gmail.com.

Group Training Days

We have over 20 years of experience running group training days in this country and Europe. We generally offer a selection from:

Karen G1 – 4

Exercises/session focusing on skills required:

-         Jumping,

-         Tunnels - directional commands, opposite ends and motivation

-         Weaving - including entry, motivation & body awareness

-         Contacts – including reinforcing end position, drive off exercises, different angles and physical skills.

-         Start lines - how to make rewarding (for dog and handler) and where best to stand

-         Basic Handling - a simple G1-3 course, broken down into sections to improve skills in particular areas.

Mark G5-7

-         Handling – advanced techniques and theory

-         Contacts - feedback, ideas, checking dogs understanding

-         Weaving – advanced skills and positioning

-         Start Line routines – handler position, body cues

-         Course Skills - walking, decision making, gaining the advantage

This is not an exhaustive list; we both train any ability on any of the subjects above plus Foundation Skills in young dogs.

Cost is £500 a day plus expenses – this is for both of us. Effectively you get two top instructors for the day

We do not train people who use any kind of electric / spray corrective collar or harsh attitude towards their dogs. To be honest we are not comfortable with people who insist upon shouting at their dogs; it's all about having fun and helping the dogs to learn with us.

Other Courses

Agility Circuits - a fun and fast way to do a lot of agility training in one session - great for dog and handler fitness

UKA Games Training - set to help handlers understand the rules and enjoy playing agility games classes.

How to Train in the Ring - we all talk about training in the ring, this course explains the benefits and includes looking at the best ways to reward your dog to get the most out of training in the ring.
